Balarama returns from pilgrimage—Sravana day—12 Dec 3067 BCE

Ghatotkacha is killed—Moon Rise at 2 am—8 Dec 3067 BCE

According to these dates, Krishna must have departed from earth around 3032 BCE and Dwarka must have submerged in 3032 BCE.

However, most of the research proves that Kaliyuga (The Dark Age) began when Krishna departed from earth. And mostly the date falls around 17/18/19/20th February, 3102 BCE. And Dwarka submerged around those dates.

It also says that the same position of stars and Nakshatras on the day the Mahabharata war was started, has been spotted exactly 14 years ago, when America's World  Trade Center was attacked on 9/11.

However, Bhagwat Purana by N.Krishnaswamy has stated dates as actual perspective which matches with most of the dates, like the Mahabharata war was started in 3138 BCE.

2 Coronation of Janamejaya
3041 BCE
3 Janamejaya's Gift Deed (Cycle year Plavanga)
3012 BCE
4 Age of Aryabhatta
2742 BCE

However, after the age of Aryabhatta, these Puranic dates doesn’t match with actual dates of Mouryan Empire. Puranic dates tells that Emperor Ashoka’s coronation occurred in 1472 BCE. However, Emperor Ashoka was born in August, 304 BCE and died in 232 BCE. His reign existed between that periods. However, Puranic dates are right in case of the Mahabharata, but they don’t match further.

Thus, we can be assured that if the Dark Age began, it must have begun in 3102 BCE, when Krishna departed from earth and Dwarka was submerged. If that’s true, then that wasn’t a normal flood that swallowed the entire city of Dwarka. It must be the Tsunami. And after that, when Ice Age began, and ice melted in water, the water level must have risen and whatever we are trying to find out about submerged Dwarka, should be beneath the extreme water level.

However, texts describe that Dwarka was made and remade for 7 times. And this we see modern Dwarka is 7th incarnation. Few years ago, archaeologists found that there was a temple near the original temple in modern Dwarka. When they started digging it, they found storeys of temples, temple beneath the temple, and it was going down. This proves that city has been made and remade many times on submerged parts. So, whichever the Krishna’s Dwarka is, it’s difficult to prove. Because we don’t know exactly how many times it has been remade after Krishna’s Dwarka was submerged in the ocean.

Following are the dates of few events from the Ramayana:

(According to Dr. P.V Vartak)These dates of Ramayana has been determined on the basis of the Mahabharata dates and the beginning of the Dark Age.

Rama's Birth Date
4th  December 7323 BCE
Rama-Seeta Married
7th  April    7307 BCE
Rama Exiled
29th November 7306 BCE
Hanuman enters Lanka
1st September 7292 BCE
Hanuman meets Seeta
2nd September 7292 BCE
Seetu (Bridge) built on the ocean
26-30th Oct.  7292 BCE
The War begins
3rd  November 7292 BCE
Kumbhakarna is killed
7th November 7292 BCE
Ravana is killed by Rama
15th November 7292 BCE
Rama returns to Ayodhya
6th December 7292 BCE

If Treta Yuga ended with Rama’s departure from the earth, it means Dwapar Yuga must have lasted for around 5000 years. According to Dark Age theory, it has started from 3102 BCE. And it has already completed 5000 years. But Puranas ensure us that following Yuga in Chaturyuga lasts more than the previous one. So, Dark Age must last more. And if we put current climatic conditions into account, it seems that end of Dark Age is also near. But it should take at least two centuries from now. Dark Age must not end till the beginning of 24th Century.

Tsunami of 3102 BCE (Part 3)

Tsunami of 3102 BCE (Part 3)

Reasons of Tsunami 3102 BCE

Reasons and another version which says the Tsunami came when Arjun was about to leave

Reason 1: Gandhari’s curse

The well-known reason behind that flood is Gandhari’s curse. Yes, right. But only one reason can’t bring such huge disaster, right?

Gandhari curses Krishna

On the 17th day of the Mahabharata war, when Karna was assassinated by Arjun in the war, Kauravas’ hope went off. And they were now assured that no one could save them. Duryodhana and Ashwatthama only were the survivors, and then, Gandhari came to save her son. Maharishi Veda Vyas suggested that Gandhari had that power stored from these many years, which could make an armour for Duryodhana. At the night when she told Duryodhana to come naked in front of her, Krishna tricked Duryodhana by telling him that a fully-grown adult son must not go in front of her mother naked. Duryodhana thought on that and he knew that one couldn’t attack under the waist in mace battle. So he covered his private parts and went. Gandhari made his visible parts unbreakable. But his thighs were still vulnerable and Krishna knew that. Therefore, Gandhari cursed Krishna.
The Actual curse described in the Mahabharata:

Gandhari said, “You don’t know a mother’s pain. You don’t know how she feels when her sons die in her presence. When you go Dwarka after the war, ask Devaki how it feels. She might understand my pain as she has seen his six children dying in front of her eyes. You’ve doomed my entire dynasty, Keshav. And remember my word, one day your whole dynasty would be destroyed in front of your eyes and you wouldn’t be able to save much of them. You are the reason behind the fall of Hastinapur. And the city which you love from your heart, the city on which you feel proud, will sink in the ocean after 36 years, and you couldn’t do anything. The gold would turn into stone. Your dynasty would kill each other animals. And you yourself would be killed like an animal.”

Then, Krishna just said, “So be it.”

That was the curse, but very few knows that the curse wasn’t actually intension of Gandhari. She knew that everything was not Krishna’s fault. But somehow she uttered those dreadful words.

There was a reason behind that curse too. When Duryodhana came Dwarka to ask support in the war, Balarama declined to support any of the side, as they both were his cousins. He said that no Yadav would participate in the battle. However, Krishna told him that they could not remain neutral and he found a middle way. He offered a choice between his invincible Narayani Army and himself (unarmed). Duryodhana chose the army and Arjun chose the lord. In that case, many of Yadavas couldn’t participate in the war.

The reason behind the war was great. Draupadi was just a medium, with whom that humiliation occurred. The whole Aryavart was suffering like these humiliation. And the purification process was necessary. Therefore, Krishna tricked every bad rulers to participate in that war, so that eventually, they could be killed. But Yadavas were fortunate, and they didn’t participate in the war. Even Dwarka had been caught in that bad behaviours. So, legends say that the curse was a trick by Krishna himself, so that those bad Yadavas could be destroyed. And the curse came true.

Reason 2: The land, lent from the ocean

As I explained in earlier posts that the ocean moved away 12 yojanas on Krishna’s request. The ocean lent those 12 yojanas and Krishna would have to refund that land. So, the ocean itself took that occupied land, when Krishna was about to depart from the earth.

This is said to be another reason behind that Tsunami.

Reason 3: Curse of Sage Durvasa and game of nature

This is the less known reason. There is a story in the Mahabharata that one day when Sage Durvasa was passing by Dwarka, he stopped at Krishna’s palace. But Krishna wasn’t in Dwarka then. Samba (Son of Krishna and Jambuvati) was the most childish son of Krishna. He used to do childish things. Sage Durvasa was famous for his anger and curse. Samba thought of a funny act. He covered his body with female clothes and acted like a pregnant woman in front of Sage Durvasa. When Sage Durvasa found out that Samba was kidding, he cursed him that on which stuff he was making fun of, he had to suffer from that. He cursed Samba that an iron rod would emerge in his body.

Samba really got that rod. An iron rod emerged from his thigh. Balarama and Krishna managed to cut that rod and Balarama ordered to throw it in the ocean. That rod was thrown near Prabhas Patan in the ocean, where Krishna had built the temple of sandalwood to dedicate Lord Shiva, the Somnath.

The rod melted in the ocean, but that rod was of unknown metal and its particles stayed in that area for years, influencing the water slowly. It is said when the time of Tsunami came, that particles of rod brought the atoms of water to their critical condition and the water formed into high walls of waves. Those waves, rose from Prabhas Patan, moved again towards Dwarka and as I explained in earlier posts, that Tsunami destroyed Dwarka.

Samba plays as woman and gets curse

[Note: Some texts say that this curse was given by troop of Maharishis which included Vishwamitra, Durvasa and many others. And the curse was that he would give birth to an iron weapon (mace), which would destroy his entire race. King Ugrasena (Grandfather of Krishna) commanded to powder that rod and throw it into the sea. It was thrown in the sea near Prabhas Patan. That powder formed into grass at the shore. After many years, when Yadavas held a festival at that shore, grass influenced and started quarrel, and Yadavas killed each other.]

Reason 4: Dwarka was the abode for the complete god on earth

As I explained in earlier post of Gita why Krishna is said to be the complete God. Krishna was the eighth and the complete incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the supreme lord himself. He had all the powers and the knowledge of his supremacy. Lord Vishnu incarnated himself to enjoy each parts of human life. And Krishna Avatar had all his feelings. Krishna avatar is said to be the complete human form of Vishnu with his divinity. That’s why few ancient texts refer him as the “Swayam Bhagwan”. Because he was the complete god.

And if the god is living on earth, he needs an abode where he could live. Though the main reason behind establishment Dwarka wasn’t that. Actually, Krishna built Dwarka for Yadava’s safety. When he killed Kans, Kans’s father-in-law, Jarasandh, used to attack on Mathura continuously, and he used to kill Yadavas. That’s why Krishna and Balarama moved all Yadavas in Dwarka along with their parents. Dwarka was island, because Krishna wanted its full security. And no one could attack on an island easily. The city had four gates and a passport system for identification. The modern technology of that era.

Dwarka was for Yadava’s security and when he took that curse of Gandhari, he felt bad for his efforts to protect his dynasty would go in vain. But it was his duty. Even he told Arjun during the war, “You just kill. Each body that would be killed in this war, I will take that weight of guilt on my soul.” And that shows that the supreme soul can accept everything, and can endure all the pressures. His those all acts gave him one result. Fall of his city.

If a god lives on earth, then he needs an abode. Dwarka was said to be the abode of god on earth. And as the god departs from the earth to his home, that abode has to disappear. And that’s the reason that explains his supremacy. As Krishna’s time for his departure came, nature destroyed the god’s abode.

Dark omens and dreadful nightmares and Mausala Parva Description on Tsunami:

Mausala Parva of the Mahabharata describes that when the time came of Tsunami after 36 years of War, the Sudarshan Chakra, Panchjanya Conch of Krishna and plough of Balarama disappeared from Dwarka. Atmosphere was making people angrier and they started humiliating each other. Dwarka had become the city of dreadful acts. In last few days, people had same nightmares of destruction. To avoid the chaos, Krishna requested people to go on pilgrimage. When Satyaki and Kritavarma started quarrel and slaying each other, Yadavas killed each other. The Royal family were away from Dwarka. After Balarama’s death, Vasudeva (Father of Krishna) also died. Krishna told his charioteer Daruk to go Indraprastha and ask Arjun. That informer was Daruk who brought Arjun at Dwarka. This parva describes that when Arjun came to rescue people, water lever rose and destroyed Dwarka. And he found that Krishna was dead too. The queens of Krishna went Sati on his funeral pyre. Arjun took remaining people to Indraprastha.

Arjun comes to rescue

The story I said in first part is also narrated. But if we consider the original Mahabharata, it says that the flood came when Arjun was about to depart for Indraprastha. Mythology has various versions. Whichever the true story is, the truth is Dwarka sank in the ocean and Yadav race nearly ended (except the survivors).

The Story continues...

Indraprastha, 3102 BCE (Present day: Delhi)

After successful victory in the greatest battle of the Mahabharata, Emperor Yudhishthira started ruling Hastinapur and the whole Aryavart successfully. He appointed the security of Indraprastha to Arjun and Arjun had made the youngest son of Karna, the king of Indraprastha. When Pandavas came to know that Karna was actually their eldest brother, and the eldest son of Kunti, Arjun promised that the throne of Indraprastha, which was belonged to the eldest Pandava, would be appointed to the only alive son of Karna. Arjun had been mentoring the son of Karna and guiding him how to rule.

Arjun was informed about the quarrel among Yadavas. Arjun immediately left for Dwarka to save the remaining people. As he reached Dwarka, he saw there was no sign of the prosperous golden city. The place where the huge and grand city of gold once stood, had been sunk into the ocean. Arjun rescued remaining Yadavas and brought them back to Indraprastha. While Arjun was rescuing those Yadavas, few robbers had tried to rob people. Then, Arjun tried to attack the robbers using his Gandiva, but he realized that all the great powers of his Gandiva had gone. He realized that whatever powers he had and his Gandiva had, had gone with Krishna. Whatever he was on this earth, he was with Krishna. The remaining Yadavas were given shelter in Indraprastha.

NOTE: There is a myth (or an actual story) that the Yadavas who were rescued by Arjun, were known as Gyat troop. They were originally Yadavas, but appointed as the guardians of the most precious jewel Syamntaka (A stone like Philosopher’s stone) by Krishna. And they made areas beside Indraprastha as their home. These Gyat troops are now known as Jats (Sikhs). And we know that Punjab and Delhi have more Sikhs than any other parts of India.

The story of Syamantaka stone would also be published soon.

Hastinapur, After 3102 BCE (Present Day: Hastinapur, UP)

Emperor Yudhishthira and Pandavas along with Draupadi were so much depressed with the death of Krishna, who was the governor and chief advisor of Yudhishthira, and they decided to leave in forest and travel the earth till their death. Prince Parikshit (Son of Abhimanyu and Uttara) was now 36 years old and he had learned everything from Yudhishthira about how to rule efficiently. Yudhishthira also felt that it was the best time to leave, and he made Parikshit the emperor and departed to the forest with his brothers and Draupadi.

They started travelling around the Aryavart. When they were passing by Dwarka, they all saw how the Arjun had said was right. There was no sign of golden city. The land near the ocean was named as Dwarka then. And people started recreating that city. But everyone knew that it can’t be made as it was once. The city of Krishna was made by Lord Vishwakarma only in one day (mentally) on the orders of Krishna himself. It was engraved in pure gold with high buildings and beautiful palaces. The richest city of Aryavart, carved with rich stones. It had beautiful lakes and gardens. It was said as the heaven on earth. And the heaven disappeared at once. It is said when Krishna asked Vishwakarma to build a paradise for him, a heavenly city, Vishwakarma asked for more land, because it was impossible to build a paradise in the preoccupied land. So, Krishna requested the ocean to lend him land. The Mahabharata describes that then the wind flew heavily, and the ocean moved 12 yojanas away, offering a big piece of land to Krishna. Vishwakarma then built Dwarka in one day. And when Dwarka sank in that tsunami, Ocean retook that 12 yojanas land accurately. That’s why I used the world ‘lend’.
Krishna in his beloved city Dwarka (Dwaravati)
Ancient image which I found on Google

Pandavas and Draupadi also died during mount on the Meru (Somewhere in Himalayas), except Yudhishthira. He alone went in the heaven with his mortal body.

Recreation of New Dwarka:

Arjun could rescue only one descendent of Krishna. Vrijanabh. Vrijanabh was the great grandson of Krishna. After few years, he asked Emperor Janmenjaya (Son of Parikshit) to create a temple, which he could dedicate to Krishna. And he asked to make it on the land of modern Dwarka. Janmenjaya approved and commanded to build a temple in modern Dwarka.

But there was a problem. Idol. When Arjun saved Vrijanabh, he was too small, and he didn’t remember how Krishna was looked like. Janmenjaya had never seen Krishna, and Parikshit had seen when he was born after the war. And whoever had seen Krishna was already dead, because that generation had gone and the people died earlier due to the illness which they brought from the flood. Maharishi Veda Vyas was busy in his cave with Lord Ganesh, as they both were writing the Mahabharata. So, they couldn’t ask him too. The only person who had seen Krishna was Uttara (Mother of Parikshit, Grandmother of Janmenjaya, wife of Abhimanyu). She was old, but alive. So, the makers built the idol of Dwarkadheesh temple on the description given by Uttara.

The temple was built in leadership of Vrijanabh and he established the idol in the temple of many pillars.

Modern Day Dwarka:

Modern Day Dwarkadheesh Temple, Dwarka, Gujarat
Also known as Jagat Mandir
After thousands of years, the temple became old and needed renovation. During Mughal reign, Emperor Akbar offered 20 lacs to rebuild the Dwarkadheesh temple. That temple made by Akbar contained exactly seven storeys. And we can see those in present day’s temple, because it’s renovated version of that one built by Akbar. The present day temple was originally built by Emperor Akbar. Government has always tried to renovate it and keep its dignity. The temple which we see today, has been well-maintained by our government.

P. S.: The reasons of this Tsunami of 3102 BCE would be published in next post. It will have full description of all the reasons (known and unknown) that caused this dreadful disaster.
