Tsunami of 3102 BCE (Part 3)
Reasons of Tsunami 3102 BCE
Reasons and another version which says the Tsunami came when Arjun was about to leave
Reason 1: Gandhari’s curse
The
well-known reason behind that flood is Gandhari’s curse. Yes, right. But
only one reason can’t bring such huge disaster, right?
Gandhari curses Krishna |
On the 17th day of the
Mahabharata war, when Karna was assassinated by Arjun in the war, Kauravas’
hope went off. And they were now assured that no one could save them. Duryodhana
and Ashwatthama only were the survivors, and then, Gandhari came to save her
son. Maharishi Veda Vyas suggested that Gandhari had that power stored from
these many years, which could make an armour for Duryodhana. At the night when
she told Duryodhana to come naked in front of her, Krishna tricked Duryodhana
by telling him that a fully-grown adult son must not go in front of her mother
naked. Duryodhana thought on that and he knew that one couldn’t attack under
the waist in mace battle. So he covered his private parts and went. Gandhari
made his visible parts unbreakable. But his thighs were still vulnerable and
Krishna knew that. Therefore, Gandhari cursed Krishna.
The
Actual curse described in the Mahabharata:
Gandhari said, “You don’t know a
mother’s pain. You don’t know how she feels when her sons die in her presence.
When you go Dwarka after the war, ask Devaki how it feels. She might understand
my pain as she has seen his six children dying in front of her eyes. You’ve
doomed my entire dynasty, Keshav. And remember my word, one day your whole
dynasty would be destroyed in front of your eyes and you wouldn’t be able to
save much of them. You are the reason behind the fall of Hastinapur. And the
city which you love from your heart, the city on which you feel proud, will
sink in the ocean after 36 years, and you couldn’t do anything. The gold would
turn into stone. Your dynasty would kill each other animals. And you yourself
would be killed like an animal.”
Then, Krishna just said, “So be it.”
That was the curse, but very few
knows that the curse wasn’t actually intension of Gandhari. She knew that
everything was not Krishna’s fault. But somehow she uttered those dreadful
words.
There was a reason behind that curse
too. When Duryodhana came Dwarka to ask support in the war, Balarama declined
to support any of the side, as they both were his cousins. He said that no
Yadav would participate in the battle. However, Krishna told him that they
could not remain neutral and he found a middle way. He offered a choice between
his invincible Narayani Army and himself (unarmed). Duryodhana chose the army
and Arjun chose the lord. In that case, many of Yadavas couldn’t participate in
the war.
The reason behind the war was great.
Draupadi was just a medium, with whom that humiliation occurred. The whole
Aryavart was suffering like these humiliation. And the purification process was
necessary. Therefore, Krishna tricked every bad rulers to participate in that
war, so that eventually, they could be killed. But Yadavas were fortunate, and
they didn’t participate in the war. Even Dwarka had been caught in that bad
behaviours. So, legends say that the curse was a trick by Krishna himself, so
that those bad Yadavas could be destroyed. And the curse came true.
Reason 2: The land, lent from the ocean
As I explained in earlier posts that
the ocean moved away 12 yojanas on Krishna’s request. The ocean lent those 12
yojanas and Krishna would have to refund that land. So, the ocean itself took
that occupied land, when Krishna was about to depart from the earth.
This is said to be another reason
behind that Tsunami.
Reason 3: Curse of Sage Durvasa and game of nature
This is the less known reason. There is a story in the
Mahabharata that one day when Sage Durvasa was passing by Dwarka, he stopped at
Krishna’s palace. But Krishna wasn’t in Dwarka then. Samba (Son of Krishna and
Jambuvati) was the most childish son of Krishna. He used to do childish things.
Sage Durvasa was famous for his anger and curse. Samba thought of a funny act.
He covered his body with female clothes and acted like a pregnant woman in
front of Sage Durvasa. When Sage Durvasa found out that Samba was kidding, he
cursed him that on which stuff he was making fun of, he had to suffer from
that. He cursed Samba that an iron rod would emerge in his body.
Samba really got that rod. An iron
rod emerged from his thigh. Balarama and Krishna managed to cut that rod and
Balarama ordered to throw it in the ocean. That rod was thrown near Prabhas
Patan in the ocean, where Krishna had built the temple of sandalwood to
dedicate Lord Shiva, the Somnath.
The rod melted in the ocean, but
that rod was of unknown metal and its particles stayed in that area for years,
influencing the water slowly. It is said when the time of Tsunami came, that
particles of rod brought the atoms of water to their critical condition and the
water formed into high walls of waves. Those waves, rose from Prabhas Patan,
moved again towards Dwarka and as I explained in earlier posts, that Tsunami
destroyed Dwarka.
Samba plays as woman and gets curse |
Reason 4: Dwarka was the abode for the complete god on earth
As I explained in earlier post of
Gita why Krishna is said to be the complete God. Krishna was the eighth and the
complete incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the supreme lord himself. He had all the
powers and the knowledge of his supremacy. Lord Vishnu incarnated himself to
enjoy each parts of human life. And Krishna Avatar had all his feelings.
Krishna avatar is said to be the complete human form of Vishnu with his divinity.
That’s why few ancient texts refer him as the “Swayam Bhagwan”. Because he was the
complete god.
And if the god is living on earth,
he needs an abode where he could live. Though the main reason behind
establishment Dwarka wasn’t that. Actually, Krishna built Dwarka for Yadava’s
safety. When he killed Kans, Kans’s father-in-law, Jarasandh, used to attack on
Mathura continuously, and he used to kill Yadavas. That’s why Krishna and
Balarama moved all Yadavas in Dwarka along with their parents. Dwarka was
island, because Krishna wanted its full security. And no one could attack on an
island easily. The city had four gates and a passport system for
identification. The modern technology of that era.
Dwarka was for Yadava’s security and
when he took that curse of Gandhari, he felt bad for his efforts to protect his
dynasty would go in vain. But it was his duty. Even he told Arjun during the
war, “You just kill. Each body that would be killed in this war, I will take
that weight of guilt on my soul.” And that shows that the supreme soul can
accept everything, and can endure all the pressures. His those all acts gave
him one result. Fall of his city.
If a god lives on earth, then he
needs an abode. Dwarka was said to be the abode of god on earth. And as the god
departs from the earth to his home, that abode has to disappear. And that’s the
reason that explains his supremacy. As Krishna’s time for his departure came,
nature destroyed the god’s abode.
Dark omens and dreadful nightmares and Mausala Parva Description on Tsunami:
Mausala Parva of the Mahabharata
describes that when the time came of Tsunami after 36 years of War, the
Sudarshan Chakra, Panchjanya Conch of Krishna and plough of Balarama
disappeared from Dwarka. Atmosphere was making people angrier and they started
humiliating each other. Dwarka had become the city of dreadful acts. In last
few days, people had same nightmares of destruction. To avoid the chaos,
Krishna requested people to go on pilgrimage. When Satyaki and Kritavarma
started quarrel and slaying each other, Yadavas killed each other. The Royal family
were away from Dwarka. After Balarama’s death, Vasudeva (Father of Krishna)
also died. Krishna told his charioteer Daruk to go Indraprastha and ask Arjun.
That informer was Daruk who brought Arjun at Dwarka. This parva describes that
when Arjun came to rescue people, water lever rose and destroyed Dwarka. And he
found that Krishna was dead too. The queens of Krishna went Sati on his funeral
pyre. Arjun took remaining people to Indraprastha.
Arjun comes to rescue |
The story I said in first part is
also narrated. But if we consider the original Mahabharata, it says that the
flood came when Arjun was about to depart for Indraprastha. Mythology has various versions. Whichever the true
story is, the truth is Dwarka sank in the ocean and Yadav race nearly ended
(except the survivors).
